The MonsterDub-Spaghetti western goes to round two!
With „Return Of The Supercops“ the asphalt cowboys of „Dub Spencer &
Trance Hill“ present a masterpiece
With a slow tempo they groove through smoky saloons and dark clubs. The reins always tight in their hands, they let their dub trot and sometimes even gallop. Most of the time their slow, heavy Reggae beats aim directly to the stomach region and take you through a psychedelic journey.
Since 2003 Dub Spencer & Trance Hill have been part of the European Dub scene.
Bassist Masi Stalder started The Band. Together with Adrian
Pflugshaupt (sax) and Christian Niederer (drums) they have released
five EPs and distributed them on their own.
In 2006 the German label with cult status „Echo Beach“(Dub Syndicate,
Tackhead, King Tubby...) signed Dub Spencer & Trance Hill. Together
with the Köln based guitar player Manougazou they produced their first
album „Nitro“ which received critical acclaim. The influential German
Reggae magazine „Riddim“ voted „Nitro“ „Dub Album of the month“.
2007 Adrian and Chris got lost somewhere between backstage rooms, dangerous side streets and backyards. DS & TH was reformed as a quartet (Markus Meier, guitar, Philipp Greter, keys, Julian Dillier, drums and Masi Stalder, bass)
But nobody wants to lament the old formation.(maybe: form.) The Dub Spencer & Trance Hill groove became more stable. On „Return Of The Supercops“ they have delved into the essence of Dub more than ever before and let it burn at the same time!
The track „Supercops“ starts with a powerful crossover-theme and
develops into a hypnotic, flowing dub tune...
This new album isn’t only brilliant it’s also funny.
„Goboi“ mixes in ironic bluegrass quotes into the desert-dub mood.
Also the band brings in more trance elements then in the earlier days.
„Trance on Hill“ is the track where DS & TH plays handmade psychedelic
trance music. Suddenly the sound becomes light and takes you to a
flight over Grand Canyon.
....and there are even melodies, that make you wanna sing along.
The last track „Falling Angel“ is probably one of the most developed
tunes on the new album:
From far away it rolls threateningly closer and closer until it’s
here in a bombastic bigness. In a manner one knows, although in another
genre, perhaps only from „Massive Attack“ at they’re best.
Dub Spencer & Trance Hill play the game of the dusty-sparkling Grooves, moments of rest and hints of sublime virtuosity with exciting sloooowness.
The journey trough the desert continues… the path is adventurous… the destination unknown… Dub Spencer and Trance Hill take everyone along…
without asking.
Where these Swiss fellows play the dub, not much more grass will grow...

Dub Spencer & Trance Hill: „Return Of The Supercops“
VÖ: 23. September 07 (Echo Beach/Disctrade)
