Alaska is a young and dynamic newcomer band hailing from Pfäffikon (Zurich), Switzerland.
This nine piece is astonishing flexible and lively. The base of their stimulating music is catchy Ska, but there are occasionally parts which remind of Reggae, Dub or Jazz. With their outstanding presence on stage and their amazing performance they make everyone want to move to their groove. And their enthusiasm for music spreads to everyone in the audience. Furthermore, they are a very compact group. The typical offbeat brings room in their powerful music. Interspersed with rousing solos of the horn section or a crazy organ intro, their music surprises again and again. The climax of their career is without any doubt their professionally recorded debut album "Claiming Land" which is a stunning firework of high-quality Ska. The changes of the pace allow the audience to have a short breather before skanking on to the high-speed rhythms.

Alaska ist eine junge, dynamische Newcomer-Band aus Pfäffikon ZH.
Die neunköpfige Gruppe ist erstaunlich flexibel und lebendig. Der Boden ihrer zum mittanzen und -singen anregender Musik ist und bleibt fetziger Ska, jedoch gibt es gelegentlich Phrasen, die an Reggae, Dub oder Jazz erinnern. Mit ihrer Live-Präsenz und einem einheitlichen Bühnenbild brachten sie bis jetzt jedes Publikum zum Kochen. Die Begeisterung der Band für die Musik springt die Zuhörer spürbar an. Nichtsdestotrotz sind sie eine ausgesprochen kompakte Gruppe.
Die Synchronisation der Instrumente auf den Ska-Typischen Offbeat bringt Raum in die kraftvolle Musik. Durchsetzt von mitreissenden Bläser-Solos oder einem verrückten Orgel-Intro, überrascht einen diese Musik immer wieder von neuem. Die Krönung ihres Schaffens dürfte aber wohl die professionell aufgenommene Debut-CD "Claiming Land" - ein fulminantes Ska-Feuerwerk der Extraklasse - sein, welche im März 2005 mit einer ausverkauften Plattentaufe im Dynamo in Zürich getauft wurde. Die Musik verfügt über die Ska-typischen Abwechslungen im Tempo und lässt so dem Publikum auch einmal eine Verschnaufpause, bevor es in rasantem Tempo weiterskankt. Man darf gespannt und erwartungsvoll auf ihre nächsten Konzerte warten. |
