Tony "mentally ill" Matterhorn
Tony needs no introduction – he is renowned on the clash scene. He’s the ladies favourite and one of the most hyped and exciting DJs in the business. Until winning the UK Cup in 2003, Matterhorn was primarily known by British fans for his flamboyant juggling and braggadocio mic skills. His style, mostly consisting of bashment riddims, ‘girl talk’, and ‘passa passa’ was highly respected by the underground circuit.
Tony is hungry to regain some of the titles which have eluded him since 2003 - Death Before Dishonor and UK Cup Clash - currently held by Black Kat.
To his fans, Tony 'Mentally Ill' Matterhorn has become one of the most outstanding Dancehall DJs in recent years. As one of the industries most talented solo selectors, he has opened the door for many others such as Fire Links, Nico Bam Bam, Ricky Trooper, Freddie Kruga and Swamp King. Over the past year he has toured Japan with Elephant Man and produced the popular dancehall riddim, Scoobay.
Tony is a stern and experienced battler having served his apprenticeship with the legendary clash sound, King Addies. The former champion won the World Cup in Antigua in 2000 and Death Before Dishonor '02 in Jamaica, before conquering the UK Cup Clash in 2003, sweeping aside defending champion Mighty Crown and challengers Black Kat, Ricky Trooper and David Rodigan.
At the UK Cup Clash '04, Matterhorn failed to regain his crown - so rest assured he will return with a vengeance to reclaim his former title.
The big question for 2005 is, can “Mentally Ill” Matterhorn defeat One Love, Young Hawk, Mighty Crown, Immortal, Bass Odyssey and the reigning champion Black Kat, who has triumphed at four consecutive events.
One thing’s for sure, Tony doesn’t like the word ‘defeat’.
