Little Hero on top with The Prayer (Oh Lord)

Singer Little Hero earns his second number one song as The Prayer (Oh Lord) has risen to the summit. The song, released on the Inspire label, is Hero's biggest follow- up to last year's Inna De Ghetto, which was released on the Yellow Moon label. For Hero, this is sweet success. With a career spanning more than ten years, the singer is now experiencing his most fruitful period in the business.

Born Paul Gayle in St Ann, Hero's music of late has bordered on the cry for upliftment and righteousness, a voice for the poor and underprivileged. In a recent interview, Hero revealed that while growing up, he developed a love for the music. It was the encouragement of family and friends that made him decide to pursue music a career.

He got his first break performing at a stage show promoted by producer Courtney Cole at Kaiser Sports Club. Since that performance, there was no turning back for Hero, who later built up a solid reputation in the Garden parish. His debut single Pretty Looks, recorded in collaboration with singer Delly Melody, was a minor chart success only to be surpassed by his follow-up God Alone featuring Merciless.
The song's success gave Hero the opportunity to tour major cities in North America and the Caribbean.

Following a lull, Hero returned to the spotlight last year with the chart-topping single Inna De Ghetto. The song not only figured on local charts, but it also did well on several overseas reggae charts. The shows then kept coming his way. Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest, GT Extravaganza, East Fest, Reggae Campfire and Guinness Sting.

Hero says the lull was due to a near fatal motor vehicle accident he was involved in. He has since overcome that hurdle, and is today thankful for the opportunity to be able to do what he loves best.

Beenie Man's Undisputed sells 15,012 copies in its first week of release

Two weeks ago, Cham's new album for Madhouse/Atlantic Records sold 15,000 copies in its first week of release in the US. Now Beenie Man's Virgin Records opus, Undisputed, has sold 15,012 copies in its first full week at retail
Undisputed debuts at number 65 on the Billboard 200 album chart. The first week burst was enough to send the disc to the top of the Billboard Reggae album chart, giving Beenie Man his sixth title to reach the top of that chart tally.

Undisputed is the fourth album from Beenie Man to debut inside the top 100 portion of the Billboard 200. His 2004 album Back To Basics debuted and peaked at number 51, however his 2002 album Tropical Storm debuted and peaked at number 18. Art & Life released six years ago, peaked at number 68.

One Third and Nickeisha Barnes shone on Sunday night

At this stage of the Digicel Rising Stars competition, one has to really be good or even at their best in terms of performance. An okay or mediocre performance is just unacceptable. Nickeisha Barnes and group One Third were the ones that shone brightest during last Sunday's studio finals which aired on TVJ.

Barnes, clearly on the warpath following her near demise a few weeks ago, showed class and sophistication with her delivery of Lauryn Hill's Ex-Factor.

The members of One Third brought an interesting element to the competition. The well-dressed group with the slick stage moves powered through Aerosmith's Don't Wanna Miss A Thing.

Natel, one of the favourites from last year, didn't fare too well, and the usually entertaining Brushy One String fell short from his usual high standard. Not surprising, Suzanne Perkins and Kimanda Cunningham continue to be mere statistics in this year's competition. Let's see if Jamaicans really understand much about talent and vote accordingly to select another winner in the Digicel Rising Stars competition.

Voice Mail's Wacky Dip continues its upward trek

It's been more than a year and a half since Voice Mail's Wacky Dip topped the local charts. However, the video for the track continues to work its way up Tempo's Cross Caribbean Countdown. After debuting at number seven, the clip moved into the number six spot on the weekend.

The clip for Wacky Dip was directed by Jay Will. The director is set to get behind the camera for the group's forthcoming video for Let's Dance. Let's Dance is featured on the Higher Altitude rhythm. It recently charted on the Choice FM Reggae chart in England.

Chart Updates

Tanya Stephens' Rebelution album debuts at number 11 on the Billboard Reggae album chart. Over to Billboard's Rap Singles chart, Tony Matterhorn s Dutty Wine falls from 17 to 19, while Sean Paul's Give It Up To Me featuring Keyshia Cole stalls at number four. Cham's Ghetto Story Chapter 2 featuring Alicia Keys holds at number 14, and It's Okay (One Blood) by rapper The Game featuring Junior Reid is up four places to number 18.

Elephant Man and Jabba are featured artistes on Fatman Scoop's U Sexy Girl, which debuts at number 93 on the R&B Hip Hop Singles & Tracks chart. Sean Paul is stuck at number eight, while Matterhorn slips from 35 to 39. Cham in the meantime rockets from 33 to 15, and Junior Reid is up five spots from 53 to 48.

Cham bullets from 91 to 77 with Ghetto Story Chapter 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, while Sean Paul loses steam, falling from 3 to 5. It's Okay (One Blood) runs out of gas, falling from 87 to 94.
