Fantan Mojah goes backpacking 'through the Macca Tree'. |

His presence on stage shows in Jamaica and around the world made the backpack almost iconic, and his Rasta-infused vocals addressing the state of the nation and the world.
After hits like Hungry, the follow-up Hail The King and the international attention-getter Fire Child, Fantan Mojah is set to take his act around the world and under his own banner.
The fiery artiste, who has at times found himslef the centre of controversy for his onstage remarks, has mustered a group of like-minded artistes under the name Macca Tree family, the moniker typically reflecting the struggle of going through the music business.
Regarding his previous production home, Downsound Records, Mojah has high praise for the association.
"Straight up I have to recognise Downsound and this is not no animosity thing, because is Downsound really bring me and put me on a level where we can experience these kind of success, but is just now time to take it beyond," he explains.
Indeed, the portly artiste has travelled quite a ways in a relatively short time. Hungry, the track that introduced him, spent eight weeks atop local charts and also landed on record polls in Italy, London, New York and Florida. The worshipful Hail The King followed suit, but the biggest buzz has so far been generated by the experimental Fire Child single, with its techno sound. The song 'caught fire' in places as disparate as Sweden and Australia.
Not bad for a former "box boy" for the popular Killamanjaro Sound System - who idolised the 'Warlord', Bounty Killer to the point that his initial stage name was Mad Killer.
These days, however, Mojah prefers to be termed a revolutinary. "Well is equal rights and justice we a defend. The powers that be, dem try keep down people of all different races, try keep people poor and in sufferation an' is dat we come fi bun out."
The revolutionary mission will this summer see him returning to Europe (he previously thrilled over 70,000 at Italy's Rototom Splash), beginning in France, but expecting to stop in Italy and Germany among others.
In the meantime, backpack firmly affixed, flags waving vigorously, the self-styled 'Fire Child' starts a new period of exploration of his potential as an artiste and as a developer of artistes. Thorns there are, but having gone through many times before, he's ready to come out stronger.
