Burning Spear is slated to be the headliner for Rebel Salute 2006, promoter of the most popular and longest running cultural music extravaganza, Tony Rebel told the Observer.
"It's a done deal, everything is finalised," said Rebel about the participation of Burning Spear who will be making his first appearance on the 13-year-old annual cultural showcase.
As for the remainder of the cast for the January 14 staging of Rebel Salute at Port Kaiser Sports Club, St Elizabeth, the top deejay promoter said he was not in a position to divulge any further information as negotiations are still in progress with prospective artistes.
"That's the most I can tell you at this time, Burning Spear will be the headliner, and we're putting together the rest of the line-up.
Negotiations are going on with a number of acts, but nothing concrete," said the entertainer whose real name is Patrick George Anthony Barrett.
However, Tony Rebel promised that the suspense will soon be over as the grand announcement will be made at the official launch on a date to be announced shortly.
Rebel Salute started in 1992 at Brooks Park, Mandeville as a cultural alternative to hardcore dancehall gigs. The event, which was branded as a festival of "Edutainment" (conscious music) and cultural "livity" (lifestyle), are promoted, quickly outgrew its original location.
Even at the present venue, it has been a yearly challenge for the promoter to keep abreast with the ever-expanding crowd attendance in terms of adequate parking accommodation.
A challenge which is expected to be more testing this year with the appearance of Burning Spear |
