Irie FM bans Jah Cure
08 November 05
The radio station has pulled all of the artiste's songs from its airplay roster.
JAH CURE'S SONGS may truly become a matter of mere 'reflection' on Irie FM. The radio station has pulled all of the artiste's songs from its airplay roster.

The move was made by Irie's management in response to death threats the station received to play more of the artiste's songs.

"We are taking a stance against this kind of behaviour, and as of this week, we will be playing no songs from the artiste," stated Irie FM's Marketing Manager, Brian Schmidt.

Though they did not disclose the names of the recipients of the calls, the station affirms that staff members had received a series of calls over a week ago, demanding that they play more of the incarcerated artiste's music.

Dangazone, the management team currently associated with the artiste, is disappointed at the decision, but say they respect the station's stance against the death threats.

"Something of this nature cannot be taken lightly in these serious times, and we understand Irie's stance on the matter. Whoever is making these calls need to realise that if they truly love Jah Cure as an artiste, they must stop making these threats, as they are evidently not helping, but hurting him," stated the Spokesperson for Dangazone.

Zip FM, which is also owned by Irie FM, has not joined the parent station in its ban on Jah Cure's songs. According to Irie's management, its other station has not received any of these threatening calls, and as such, will continue to play the artiste's music.

"If at any time Zip reports receiving these threatening calls, they will also pull all songs from airplay," stated Schmidt.

Jah Cure was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment on April 26, 1999, for two counts of rape, robbery with aggravation, and illegal possession of firearm, all arising from the same incident. He received this sentence at age 19.

The station's management emphasised that this decision was made in response to 'threats,' and has nothing to do with Jah Cure's current legal situation.
